National Parks in India

India’s first national park is Hailey National Park which was established in 1936, now known as Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand. There are 104 existing national parks(National Wildlife Database, Dec. 2020) in India covering an area of 43,716 km2, which is 1.33% of the geographical area of the country, and 544 Wildlife Sanctuaries(National Wildlife Database, Dec. 2020) having an area of 122420 km2, which is 3.72% of the geographical area of the country. Hemis National Park is the largest National Park located in Jammu & Kashmir and South Button Island National Park is the smallest National Park located in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

National Parks is a place for preserving animals by providing natural habitat and prey and it is for the betterment of the wildlife and biodiversity. These are suitable places for biodiversity conservation. We have listed the state-wise National Parks in India.
